FUTURE CITIZENS OF AUSTRALIA

[Commentary]

The liner 'Asturias' arrives at Fremantle from Great Britain with 931 new migrants for this country. Among them are 147 children sent to Australia under the Catholic Episcopal Migration and Welfare Association, who will go to various institutions in Western Australia. Some children also have arrived under a Church of England scheme. Their ages range from four to 14 years.

A small number of these youngsters, aged between 14 and 17, were in Australia during the war years, and under the Children's Overseas Reception Board Scheme are returning to spend the remainder of their lives in this sunny country of their adoption.

The present price of oranges in England is so high that some of these youngsters must be tasting this vitamin-filled fruit for the first time in their lives.
