The photograph appeared in the Australasian newspaper of 17 September 1898. An 11-line story appeared on the following page stating that 200-300 women 'invaded the clubroom of the Legislative Council' to urge members to pass the Women's Franchise Bill. It reported that Mrs Lowe and Mrs Fryer of the Society of Friends spoke. Sir William Zeal replied, saying that the Council would give their views 'earnest consideration'.
